Hi Bill, as far as I’m aware that’s one of the quirks of BBO and I don’t think you can. I quite like to be at the bottom of the screen when I’m playing but I take your point it can be confusing as to which position you’re actually sitting,
You are right, I was very lucky that Crombie didn’t cover with the J, which indeed does give me the contract! but I was always running the 10.
Hi Lizanne, weak 2s in the majors (Benji Acol) shows 6-10 points with 6 cards in the major, ie an opening of 2H shows 6 hearts and 6-10 points and ditto for 2S opening. Your partners responses to that get a bit more complicated! Many use the Ogust system of response to the weak 2 bid. So you open 2H, partner responds 2NT (Ogust) showing 14+ points and interest in game. You as opener respond according to your point count and strength in your opening major. So the response of 3C shows minimum points and minimum strength in your bid major (so something like 6 or 7 points which includes one of the top honours in your bid suit). Response of 3D shows minimum points too but includes 2 of the top honours in your bid suit. Response of 3H shows top of the point range (8-10 points) including 1 of the top honours in your bid suit, and 3S response shows top of the point range and 2 honours in your bid suit. Finally a response of 3NT shows top of point range and top 3 honours in your suit. Now your partner takes control and bids to the correct level. (Please note these Ogust responses are the same whether you open 2H or 2S). In Benji an opening bid of 2C shows a strong hand in an unspecified suit, and an opening of 2D shows 23+ Points. (Lastly Standard English Acol teaches 3 weak 2s which includes the 2D bid as weak, so all 2C openings are now strong).
Hi Lizanne, I think the stars represent you have partnered a few players, rather than always the same person. It is an indication of how compatible you are to partner – so a nice thing. If you play in tournaments and do well you get BBO points and these relate to the number you may see alongside players names, ie 2 etc. Hope this helps.
Hi Sue, glad you managed to sort it out in the end. If on an iPad I believe you can also save to an iCloud Drive.
Hi Justine, yes you will need to register your BBO user name with BMB. Under the Help menu click on ‘Contact us’ and send it in. Then you will be able to join in with the set hands. Hope you enjoy them. Don’t forget they are based on the seminar so would be helpful if you’ve watch that too. If you are at all unsure, Bernard has set up some very useful videos all under the Help menu.
Hi Justine, no it is not unless you chose to use it when you registered on BBO. Have you registered on BBO yet? (It is free). If not you will need to register direct onto BBO with a User name of your choice, along with a Password. Once you have done that you will be able to join in the BMB set hands. Have a look under the Help icon in the BMB website heading if you need any info on how to do this.
At favourable vulnerability I’d definitely open 3H (I’m a gambler!) never would I open at the 2 level as it doesn’t give the accurate Heart count. If the opponents have the points I’ve not only got in the way but I’m quite happy to be Doubled, I can go 3 off and still get a reasonable score. If my partner has points then I have described my hand in one bid, and will only bid again if forced.

We are enjoying your seminars. We have used BBO with friends on line and have created a whatsap group so that 4 of us at a time can have a voice call so can chat and feel connected. We have not used the video option as it put too much pressure on the bandwidth (and we do know what we look like! 🙂 )

I am hoping to learn bridge and will comment on graphics if that is ok. I am afraid I am a visual audio and kinesthetic learner (vak) so the last part doesn’t come into it but the graphics need to be a bit more user friendly So visually you are great to watch and listen to. However I need some help on positional layout and interaction. Maybe a cream background and different font to start with.

I at last tried this flatbread. I talked to you on BBO and ended that I would. I daren't go in shops yet and local store has very limited GF but I finally got someone to get me chick pea flour (which I have not used before). I don't think I did it right – do you use an electric whisk or a wooden spoon by hand? Also I hadn't a big enough metal pie tin so used a pyrex one. It ended up soggy but it was vaguely edible. I will have another try

Choice of book depends on size of pan. For example, my copy of the Complete Works of Shakespeare wouldn't fit but Three Men in a Boat lacks sufficient mass. Card Play Technique is physically and mentally a weighty tome and probably deserves reading once a year.
